Question | What effect will a power mobility riding toy have on participation behaviours of
young children with CP? |
Description |
An intervention withdrawal design was used to see the impact of use of a powered
mobility riding toy on two preschool children with quadriplegic CP. Video recordings
were made of the children during free play with and without the power mobility toy.
Each child had only 3-4 hours of total time using the toy. |
Results |
• Increased self-initiated movement in intervention phases (using the toy) with
immediate returns to baseline during withdrawal phases (without the toy)
• One child initiated contact more with other children and was less demanding with
adults when using the toy.
• Other child received more negative attention from adults during the intervention
phase (using the powered mobility toy)
